Phoenix festivalsThe 23rd annual Ostrich Festival happened recently in Chandler Arizona, part of the Greater Phoenix Real Estate Area. It was showcased by the infamous ostrich races with jockies riding those big birds!! Ostrich farms were introduced to the area by the founder of Chandler…..Dr A.J. Chandler, a Canadian born in Coaticook, Quebec in 1859.

Educated at McGill University in Montreal it was not till 1891 that he accepted a position as the first Veterinarian Surgeon General in Arizona. From his first 80 acre purchase just south of the Salt River to establishing  the Consolidated Canal Company in 1892 through to the 1900s when he purchased 18000 acres. Then to get water, in accordance with the Salt River water rights treaty, he began subdividing his land into 160 acre parcels and went on to design a town that flourished which he realized in his lifetime before passing away in 1950. In 1954 the Town of Chandler became the City of Chandler and continued to prosper into being the current vibrant city that it is today of 240000 people occupying 75 square miles.

The Greater Phoenix Real Estate Area is composed of around 24 towns and cities that each have their own identities with  never ending cultural events & festivities happening. This is a significant part of the lifestyle here in the Phoenix area as there is always something going on in the valley every week of the year.
