Westgate Entertainment District is the home of the NFL Arizona Cardinals who play football here at the University of Phoenix Stadium. The annual Fiesta Bowl is also played here….this year’s classic featured Oregon Ducks vs Kansas State and was attended by 73000. There are also many other events that occur at the stadium including concerts, trade shows, Rib Festival and much more. The Superbowl has been played here in 2008 and will return in 2015.
There is a 20 screen movie theatre here, boutique shopping as well as many restaurants and pubs in Westgate that are especially busy during sporting events. They include Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, Yard House, Saddle Ranch, McFaddens Saloon, Kabuki Japanese, The Shout House dueling piano bar, Johnny Rockets, Calico Jacks, Hell’s Half Acre and more….something here for everyone!
At the heart of this development is a central square that features Las Vegas Bellagio-style fountains with light show, big screen broadcasts and soaring billboards like in Times Square. Night time is the best time to be here to experience the vibrancy. There is a seasonal motorcycle show-n-shine on Thursday evenings, outdoor beer gardens with live band when the Coyotes are in the playoffs and many other scheduled events.
The latest improvement to Westgate is the addition of The Tanger Outlet Mall….an 80+ store mall in the NW corner of the site. Stores include Nike, Coach, Fossil, Banana Republic, Izod and many other popular outlets. The grand opening was on Nov 15th in time for Black Friday shopping. Prior to this location, you had to travel to the far north end of the valley to Anthem Outlet Mall or east of Sky Harbor airport to Arizona Mills which are both very nice malls also. This new outlet mall is very convenient for those in the west valley or central valley to get to and then there’s the added attraction of all the restaurants and the sporting events to boot.
